Conference Information, Location Accessibility, and Lactation Rooms

Conference location

Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books and Manuscripts
(6th Floor of Van Pelt Library, University of Pennsylvania)
3420 Walnut Street
Philadelphia, PA 19104-6206

The entrance to campus is on 34th and Walnut Streets, where a diagonal walk cuts southwest into a quad. Take that path and look for a big white broken button sculpture. The steps behind it enter the library. Van Pelt Library has an accessible entrance. It is to the right of the steps if you are looking at the front entrance. It is tucked away below the steps in a small courtyard area. For more resources on library accessibility, please visit: https://www.library.upenn.edu/about/accessibility

The library also has lactation rooms available in the 5th floor grad lounge, although they may only be accessible with a Penn card. If you have trouble finding or using them, please find one of the Penn organizers, who are prepared to help. More information on these spaces can be found here: https://www.hr.upenn.edu/PennHR/wellness-worklife/family-care/lactation-support-program/how-to-find-on-campus-lactation-space

Uber/Lyft/taxi: Expect to pay $30-50 and spend 20-40 minutes, depending on the time of day.

Public transportation: The SEPTA Regional Rail operates about every 30 minutes out of the airport. Look for the signs toward “Center City” and take the Airport Line. The ride takes 14 minutes. Get off at the Penn Medicine Station. From the Penn Medicine Station, it is a 0.5 mile walk to Van Pelt Library and the general area where hotels are.

Philadelphia is a very walkable city, but Lyft/Uber/taxi and bus are always an option. Please visit the SEPTA Trip Planner to plan a route by public transportation: https://plan.septa.org/
